Oviedo officer arrested on child molestation charges
Investigators in Seminole County arrested an Oviedo police officer accused of molesting a child.
The Oviedo Police Department informed the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office they were investigating Joseph Meyer on Sunday after allegations were made against him.
Meyer was arrested at his home and charged with six counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child between 12 and 16 years old, and one count of molestation of a child under 12.
The victim told authorities Meyer would cuddle with her in her bed and grope her under her shirt, deputies said. According to an arrest report, this happened on multiple occasions.
Oviedo Police Chief Dale Coleman says he’s shocked over inappropriate touching allegations.
“if these allegations are found to be true, they do not represent anyway form or fashion of the Oviedo Police Department,” Coleman said.
Authorities said the incident was isolated.
Meyer is a 15-year veteran of the Oviedo Police Department,
Meyer has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending results of an investigation.
